About Zari

What is Zari?

Zari is an AI companion app for emotional support, journaling, and reflection. She listens, remembers what you share with her, and responds in 16 languages with optional voice. Zari is not a therapist, doctor, or licensed professional— she's a thoughtful conversation partner.

Is Zari really an AI?

Yes. Zari is powered by large language models (primarily Anthropic's Claude). Every reply you receive is generated by AI in real time. Zari has a consistent personality you can pick at signup, but underneath she is an AI — not a real person.

Privacy & data

Is my data private?

Yes. Your conversations, memories, and journal entries are stored securely and used only to provide the service. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers. We use trusted providers (Clerk, Convex, Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Stripe, Sentry) to run the app — see our Privacy Policy for details.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. You can delete individual memories from the Memories panel, or delete your entire account from Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent; all your data is removed within 30 days.

Can I export my data?

Yes. From Settings → Download My Data you can download a JSON file containing your memories, mood history, conversations, voice notes, reminders, journal entries, and account profile.

Does Zari train on my conversations?

No. We do not use your conversations to train AI models. Anthropic (our AI provider) also does not train on data from API customers by default.

How long do you keep my data?

As long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove all associated data within 30 days, subject to limited legal-retention obligations (e.g., billing records).

Memory & personalization

How does Zari remember things?

When you mention important facts — your name, people in your life, goals, milestones, things you love — Zari extracts them and stores them as "memories." She can then bring them up in later conversations to feel like a friend who actually pays attention.

Can I see what Zari remembers?

Yes. Open the Memories panel anytime to see, search, edit, or delete what Zari knows about you. You're always in control.

What's the difference between free and Plus memory?

Free users see Zari reference up to 3 recent memories in conversation. Zari Plus users get unlimited memory recall, which is what makes the experience feel like a real long-term friendship.

Mental health & safety

Can I use Zari for therapy?

No. Zari is not a therapist, psychiatrist, or licensed mental-health professional. She can offer emotional support, reflection prompts, and grounding exercises — but for therapy, please see a licensed clinician. What happens if I mention thoughts of self-harm?

Zari automatically detects crisis-related messages and surfaces a banner with hotline numbers (988 US, 116 123 UK, findahelpline.com global) along with text-line and chat options. Zari's reply also encourages you to reach out to a professional. We err on the side of showing the banner — if it ever appears when you don't need it, you can dismiss it.

Does Zari give medical, financial, or legal advice?

No. Zari is not a doctor, financial advisor, or lawyer. When these topics come up, Zari includes a brief reminder to consult a licensed professional. Treat anything Zari says about health, money, or law as a conversation prompt, not advice.

Voice & languages

What languages does Zari speak?

16 languages: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Hindi, Arabic, Turkish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Tagalog, Uzbek, and Urdu. Pick yours at signup or change anytime in Settings.

Can Zari speak out loud?

Yes. Tap the speaker icon to enable voice. Zari uses ElevenLabs for premium voice quality. If that's temporarily unavailable, she falls back to your browser's built-in text-to-speech.

Why does Zari sometimes sound different?

If our premium voice service has a hiccup, Zari falls back to your browser's built-in voice for a few minutes so the conversation never stops. The premium voice returns automatically.

Subscriptions & billing

How much does Zari cost?

Zari is free to use with daily message and voice limits. Zari Plus unlocks higher daily limits, unlimited memory, premium voices, journal, sleep stories, and more. See the pricing page for the current rate.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — new accounts get a 7-day free trial of Zari Plus automatically at signup. No card required for the trial.

How do I cancel my subscription?

From Settings → Manage Subscription, you can cancel anytime. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; you keep Plus access until then.

Do you refund subscription payments?

Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by law. If something went wrong, email support@zari.help and we'll help.

Account

What's the minimum age to use Zari?

18 or older. Account creation requires age confirmation. If you are under 18, please do not use Zari.

I forgot my password / can't log in

Use the "Sign in with Google" or "Sign in with Apple" options on the login screen, or the password-reset link in the email sign-in flow. If you're still stuck, email support@zari.help.
